Like I said in my last post, I'm the interim Mid-Day DJ at the radio station right now. Even though it does make my day a little more hectic, it's nice to be doing the job I want to do for a living.
Don't get me wrong, the Production Director gig is good too... it makes me thankful I have the college degree. But, when it comes down to it, my goal is to be a Air Personality in a fairly big market city. (Here's hoping I can accomplish that before I'm 30...)
So honing my skills at the station during the day has been a good start. Of the feedback I've gotten, it seems mostly positive... which makes me feel pretty good about it since we've also been really busy with lots of giveaways, contests and so on.
Today, one of the big wigs from the company that owns our station came in. Mostly he was there to give the sales team a pep talk. It's ratings time, so the better we sound the more listeners we get, therefore more business and advertising, which means more money flowing in, which means better salaries, which means we'll sound better... in an endless cycle. Pretty basic stuff for radio.
Anyway, he was meeting with pretty much everyone at the station on a one-on-one basis. Since I'm the fill-in guy, the boss man didn't meet with me very long. But, he had been listening during my shift and gave me good comments.
For me, that would've been enough to hear. However... one comment stuck out big time.
"Your energy is great (for nights). I'd hire you as a night guy at a station in a bigger market in a second."
...
HOLY CRAP
My ego has been on overdrive ever since. Just give me some time and you'll be hearing about the awesome night DJ in the big city sooner than we may think! Look out world... here comes NATE-O!
