Mark your calendars folks, cause this is possibly the ONLY rant that has anything to do with my politics you're likely to see on TGM.
There are a few things I'm against in this world. War, hunger, poverty, and expensive health care are near the top. Right now, I can avoid most of those.
I will never join the military. Ever. (The only way I would join is if Hitler came back from dead... or robots took over the world.)
As long as I have a job, I can avoid the poverty and hunger thing. (Speaking of which, I should probably eat dinner right now. But, that can wait until I'm done ranting.)
And if I get my permanent job, I get insurance so I'd have some coverage in case shit happens.
Now, the one thing I have no control over is this: MONEY.
Yep, most economists say we're in a recession. The dollar is now inferior to many other monetary units and that's affecting retail spending, oil prices, and interest rates. Now that I'm officially an adult, this ends up making my life a good bit of hell.
Mostly the gas prices right now. I mean 3.49 a gallon?!!? WTF? I spend around 30 bucks every 8-10 days now. And I'm probably one of the lucky ones. People with big gass guzzlers spend even more. (I heard one lady on the news say it takes a Benjamin to fill up.)
The country is suffering and it will only get worse. I can't wait to see what the current administration has up it's sleeve to fix this shit. My prediction: They'll just make it worse. Bush is such a fuck-up that I can't believe we haven't tarred and feathered him on the steps of the Capital Building by now.
We continue to pour money into a war that means NOTHING anymore. The rest of the world considers us morons because our leader probably watches Teletubbies every morning before his daily security briefing.
I'm SO happy that we're getting ready to send that moron out the door. The only thing I can hope for is that the nation finally makes a correct decision and puts the right man in office. (And yes, I said man. Hilary would be OK, but she's from a old-school way of doing things. And I'm not talking McCain either. I'd rather take four more years of Bush Jr. than have a guy who probably still has Vietnam flashbacks poised to launch the nukes.)
So, politics-wise, I can't wait for 2009 to get here. Maybe then, we can get the country back on the right track and regain (some of) the respect we've lost over the past 8 years.
