Yes, I'm an Atheist. Why? Well, here are my top 4 reasons. (For the purposes of this post, I'll refer most exclusively to the judeo-christian idea of god as a big dude in a robe with a white beard... so think Jerry Garcia without a tie-dye shirt.)
4. I think there was a Big Bang and that Evolution is for real.
With all the evidence that is around to support these theories, I just have an easier time wrapping my head around them as opposed to a god simply flipping a switch one day and saying, "Poof." Plus, theists still haven't figured out a way to explain the why the dinosaurs aren't in the Bible.
3. More wars have been fought on the grounds of religion than any other reason.
I don't care for war. Especially these days when war seems like a outmoded form of solving problems, conflict and violence still exists thanks more often than not to some form of religious belief clashing with another. Can't we just keep our religious beliefs to ourselves for once and solve problems logically like adults?
2. I'm not impressed.
Seriously, a kid playing Sim City could a do a better job with this world. If some deity had control over the affairs of humanity, why do problems like famine, disease, violence and greed still persist? If this is the best a deity can do, I'd give him a big fat F on his report card.
1. Prove it.
All we have to go on that a god exists is in scripture written 2000 years ago by a group of HUMAN MEN who simply wanted a way to control a population that had no idea how things work and needed something to control the scared and unorganized masses. So, without any real empirical evidence to back it up, I say there isn't a god.
All said, I'm probably most associated with practical atheism. If someone could prove without any sort of question that there is a god... maybe I'd change my mind. Until then, I'll stick with the secular views on how the Universe was formed and how it all works.
Also, I don't think my beliefs are any better than yours. This is solely my opinion and I will ultimately respect whatever you may think. I just ask that you respect my thoughts as well and that we can still get along.
In closing, I think Epicurus, the ancient Greek Philosopher, had a pretty good point about the non-existence of a god:
"Is [God] willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then is he impotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then is he malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Whence then is evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
Just something to think about...

What's great about Sim City is the fact that when you're bored with your crappy city, and everyone starts arguing about your 8% sales tax, your... your shitty reruns of 90210, and the lack of a senic view when they drive down Ass Blvd, you can just send in Bowser, or a typhoon and wipe everyone out.
But what REALLY lets me know that God doesn't exist, outside of the person in charge of Sim City... is the fact that he makes the typhoon work without your city being located by a body of water.
Fucking Japanese people and their simulation gaming. Suck my Tamagachi.
