One Hell of a Weekend pt. 2

Where was I? Oh yeah, Commencement.

As I was sitting with all the other graduates, I couldn't help think back to my High School Commencement four and a half years ago.

That ceremony was even bigger, incredibly organized, rehearsed, and went off without a hitch. And by without a hitch I mean it was almost like a Soviet parade through Red Square in Moscow. We were in perfect alphabetical order and nobody in the audience was allowed to cheer until everyone had been had walked across the stage. Seriously, if anyone cheered they were escorted away by the gestapo.

Our college ceremony was far more relaxed, had less speeches, and the audience constantly cheered for their graduates. Hell, the CCIM group even tried (but failed) to start a "wave" in the middle of names being called.

I knew it was a better ceremony when I figured I could just leave. Which I did because we had other stuff to do on Saturday afternoon and we wanted to get out of town before the snow got too bad. So I just left. It was very liberating.

After we got back to Indy my Dad, my brothers and I went X-mas shopping. It's a tradition and we got a lot done. I'd say the best part was we got my Dad a new copy of Bob Marley's "Legend" and we jammed to it in the second-half of the evening. It was awesome.

Sunday was a day that might have required an all-terrain vehicle. Even more snow fell overnight and I had the distinct pleasure of driving in the not-so-plowed roads to New Castle for work.

Oh buddy was that a fun drive. A lesser man would've been white knuckled the entire way. But not me. I was just white knuckled some of the way since I found out my Cavalier doesn't like the snow. You have to start stopping about twenty minutes before you want to or else you'll slide all over the slush and ice. Other than that, wasn't too bad.

So that was my weekend in a nutshell. Now I'm back in Indy taking a few days to recuperate and try to wrap my head around being officially done with college. It's slowly becoming apparent that I now have to make something of my life.

I really came to that realization when we were at the Mall for our final stop of shopping. We were waiting at a jewlery store for a gift to be re-sized for someone and my Dad and I were just checking out watches as per the afore mentioned lack of punctuality on my part earlier in the day Saturday. I just ask to see a watch and my Dad starts getting that sentimental look on his face.

He asks if I want the watch as a graduation gift but I decline. I tell him that ever since I lost a twenty dollar watch at Cedar Point I decided to not wear a watch and just let my cell phone tell me the time.

Later on at home, he told me he would've bought that watch in a heartbeat. I tell him that I don't need a watch to remember my graduating college but that it's my job to payback the education he provided me by making sure I have a great life and provide for my family.

Therefore, it's time to get another job, continue honing my radio career, and find a girl to settle down with. (Not necessarily in that order)
