The wedding was very awesome. Went off without a hitch. I don't think I've ever laughed that much at a damn wedding. Between what the pastor said and the awesome banter pre and post-wedding, it was fantastic.
Some highlights:
Pastor: (Referring to Charlie Brown comics as an analogy to happiness)"...Happiness is a good bone."
I knew I wasn't the only one whose face inverted after hearing that gem. Brianne actually kicked the back of my pew to make sure I didn't start cracking up.
Pastor: (Also referring to happiness) "For Martha, happiness is Ryne. For Ryne, happiness is... a good video game."
This was the one everyone was allowed to laugh at. I decided to laugh enough to cover both lol inducing moments.
After all that was the reception. Fun was had by many. I had the plan to leave at about 9 so I could get back to Muncie at a decent hour. However, since there was an after party, I decided to stay.
I busted out the patented Nate-O "White Boy Dance". I don't think it's a party if that isn't performed at least once.
The one thing that I didn't plan on doing was catching the garter. The only person in my group of friends who doesn't have a significant other is the one who now has to get married next...
My plan, therefore, is to wear that thing on my sleeve all week to class and bag me a lady. You think I'm joking, but you'd be wrong.
I'd like to think I had the game saving moment during the reception. Martha and Ryne didn't have many cliches which I commended. There was no chicken dance, no Macarena, no Hokey Pokey. But there were also no toasts and no predetermined assigned seating. The later of that was cool because I met Martha's awesome Aunt Carla; whom everyone kept calling "Carol". But she was an awesome sport about it.
What surprised me was that the song "Shout" wasn't on the play list. I asked the MC what was up and she said that they hadn't planned on playing it. After a pep talk with Martha to convince her that that was the main reception song and that it would be the hit for everyone before many left, we got it played.
For me, that was the best part of the reception. The dance floor was packed, we all danced like maniacs, and I even got a conga line going ala Animal House. Game Ball goes to Nate-O for that one.
The after party was full of some lulz. I got to the bar before anyone else because almost everyone was gonna stay at the hotel for the night. Seeing as how I didn't have a change of clothes, I got myself a beer. There was this random British guy just hanging out at this cocktail lounge shooting the shit with the bartender and he told some pretty good jokes.
Three beers, a piece of paper, and the most atrocious redition of the birthday song that I've ever heard, it was time for me to hit the road. It was about 1 in the morning and I figured I could make it to Muncie by 2:45. (I drive like a bat out of hell so this is a pretty accurate estimate.)
At least it would've been... had I not driven 15 minutes IN THE WRONG DIRECTION!!!
I fuckin' felt like Lloyd and Harry. Immediately after, a call was made to Jake once I got going the proper way and relayed the LULZ.
As I was pulling in to Muncie, the song "Angel" by Aerosmith came on my MP3 player and I got all warm and fuzzy because I want that song to be the one my wife and I dance to at our wedding reception. It was pretty much the perfect end to a wonderfully fun-filled day.
Today I got to train at WMDH for my new weekend shift. I met two really cool DJs and learned alot about what it takes to be a decent on-air guy. It looks like a great place to work, even if it's Country music...
After that, I made my way back to Muncie (since the station is in New Castle) and plopped on my couch with a bucket of chicken. After watching the Colts get owned in the proverbial ass for about five minutes, I decided to watch Family Guy.
As much as I loved all the things I did this weekend, my only gripe is all the driving I did. If I have to go to Indy, all I have to do I go about 60 miles and that only takes me 50 minutes if there isn't much traffic. Same amount on a trip back.
With the trip to and from the wedding, plus the trip down and back to New Castle, I figure that was roughly 290 miles. That's over twice what I drive to and from Indy. My car probably hates me and will shiv me in the middle of the night.
But, it was all worth it.
Honorable Mentions:
Ryne and Martha- Congrats you guys. Just don't name your kids Will or May.
Rachel and Jeff- Thanks for training the Noob. I'll try not to let you down next week.
Me- As always... I'M AWESOME!!!
