Inconvienience

This is the letter I just sent in to the Ball State Daily News

---

Dear Editor,

I am extremely concerned with the lack of communication that took place today (September 3rd, 2007) in regards to a charity march that took place around 3:15pm that shut down much of McKinley Avenue.

I am not criticizing the event itself because I am sure it was for a good cause. However, I was unaware of this event until I tried to catch a bus or shuttle to make my way to my apartment which is just north of campus. To my shock, there wasn’t one. I waited for 15 minutes until I gave up and began walking towards my apartment. It was when I got to the corner of Neely and McKinley that I saw a police car had blocked off the street. This was a major inconvenience to students who frequently ride the BSU Shuttles and MITS bus, but also to the drivers of these busses themselves.

The officer directing traffic re-routed the BSU Shuttle, and the shuttle driver was obviously unaware of what was going on. This was true of other motorists trying to get to campus by way of McKinley. Traffic was very much a problem.

This entire series of events could have been avoided if more communication had taken place about what the event was and how it would possibly affect those who had places to go/get to. There was nothing in today’s Daily News about the march.

Hopefully, the dedication of the new Communication and Media Building will not have a similar effect, seeing as how it has been advertised for some time now.
